Our first Christmas Appeal launches
We are calling on our community to get behind our first Christmas Appeal, highlighting the vital 24-hour palliative and end-of-life care services we'll continue delivering this Christmas and beyond.
While many organisations close over the festive period, we are open 365 days a year for our patients and families. We hope that this campaign will help give people a greater understanding of our services.
As part of our Appeal, our Ambassador Kate Stewart has spoken of the unwavering support she received while her friend was under our care earlier this year; read more about this here. Whilst Thames Hospice Sister, Anne Jones, talks you through what it’s like on the Hospice’s Inpatient Unit on Christmas Day.
Anne said: “For some of our patients, this will be their last Christmas and we do our upmost to make sure it is one to remember, from festive decorations on the Inpatient Unit and providing Christmas lunch for our patients and their families, to simply being there for them when they need it. These are moments that will stay with patients’ relatives forever, so we do everything we possibly can to make Christmas a special time to remember.”
The new Appeal was mailed to our supporters and Stuart Munday, Thames Hospice's Head of Individual Giving, said: “It is only down to the amazing ongoing support from local people that we can continue to provide such expert care for people with life-limiting illnesses, on Christmas Day and the other 364 days of the year. As an example of how your gift could make a difference, a donation of £5 could pay for a patient to have Christmas dinner in the Hospice on Christmas Day.”
