Bubble Rush bursts into Berkshire this weekend
Bubble Rushes have been popping up nationwide, raising thousands for hospices, and now you can be part of the very first one in Berkshire this Sunday (10 September).
We are holding the Bubble Rush at Windsor Racecourse and are bursting to tell you that registration is still open for the 5k fun run through multi-coloured bubbles.
Heart FM breakfast DJ Michelle will set runners off after the Heart Angels get Bubblers set to burst through the foam to the finish line. You can walk, skip, run or even hop this colourful course and all funds raised help us provide local people with quality of life, until the end of life.
One of the families we have helped is the Popes, from Bracknell, pictured above. They are taking part in the Bubble Rush in memory of Pam’s first husband, Matt, and to help the organisation which was such a lifeline for Pam. She said: “Taking part in the Bubble Rush means so much to me on two levels. Mainly because it’s to raise money for Thames Hospice and secondly because running has become my anti-depressant when the past catches up with me and the grief becomes overwhelming.
“13 years ago my first husband, Matt, was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour. He went through surgery and radiotherapy to reduce the symptoms and give him more time. However the treatment left him with severe mobility problems and getting through each day became tough, both physically and mentally. We were put in contact with Thames Hospice and very quickly Matt attended the Day Therapy Unit once a week. It gave him the chance to be with people in similar situations and got him out of the house. For me, it gave me time to myself to work and try to face the future.
“During the couple of years that Matt attended the Hospice, he met lots of new people, many of whom brought a smile to his face. The Hospice gave him the chance to take part in new activities and get a little self-control and independence back. The team also gave us both counselling, to try and help us deal with the situation.
“The service he and I received from the Hospice was crucial and continues to be crucial for others who are dealt such a devastating blow. To be able to have dignity, confidence and, where possible, independence at the end of life should be a basic human right, so I will help Thames Hospice provide that human right in any way that I can. I am so proud that my new husband and our five-year-old son want to join in with me for such worthy reasons.”
Alison Evans, Community and Events Fundraising Manager at Thames Hospice, said: “We have limited spaces still available for the Bubble Rush, so why not get a team together or set yourself a personal challenge and be part of this fun, first event for the area. We can’t wait to welcome you!”
